Mile High Endurance Podcast

Mile High Endurance Podcast is recorded in the Rocky Mountain front range area in Denver, Colorado. 55 miles to the north is the triathlon 'Mecca' of Boulder, home of some of the most prominent pros in triathlon and related sports. 56 miles to the south is the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs is the flagship training center for the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Olympic Training Center programs. The 110 mile stretch between Boulder and Colorado Springs is one of the fittest and athletic populated areas in the world. I share these statistics, not so much to brag but to give you the listener context for what the culture and vibe is here in the Mile High area. The objective of the Mile High Endurance Podcast is to connect you to the triathlon community and empower you to achieve your triathlon and fitness goals. Each month we will take subjects that you are interested in and connect your interests with news, expert interviews, and information about services and products in a way that inform your decisions to achieve your full potential in the sport.

Our guest this week is the "voice of Ironman", Mike Reilly. More than 350,000 athletes have heard his iconic pronouncement, “You are an IRONMAN!”. He has written the book "Finding My Voice" and we are going to hear the inspirational stories in Mike's own voice shortly.

Thanks to last week's guest Billy the kid Edwards, who is recently back from France and the quadrennial event Paris-Brest-Paris. He is going to explain what this 1200km in less than 90 hours event is all about.

Mike Reilly has called over 180 IRONMAN events, including 30 straight years of the World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. More than 350,000 athletes have heard his iconic pronouncement, “You are an IRONMAN!” as they crossed the finish line and accomplished something most of us can hardly imagine. Endurance News:

Lauren Goss, professional triathlete suspended for six months for too-high levels of THC.

@laurengoss

With a heavy heart, I have to announce that I will not be racing Saturday at the IM 70.3 World Championships. In fact, I am somewhat forced to end my career racing as a professional athlete. I just accepted a 6 month suspension for testing positive for THC, a substance found in the CBD cream I was using to treat an ankle injury for over a month twice a day. The cream was tested and had more THC than it stated on the container. If anything, this should be eye opening for athletes who also use CBD to treat injuries. I am extremely depressed, nervous, and unsure of what I will do next. I was immediately terminated from my main sponsor leaving me really no option to return to racing. I do though have the support from a few of my other sponsors if I do decide to race again in 2020. I take full responsibility for using the CBD cream knowing it had THC in it. However, I really did not think anything of it as it is so mainstream now, especially in Boulder. Also, I do not believe it is in any way performance enhancing.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and followed my journey for the past 9 years. Triathlon taught me so much and brought me more than I ever would have imagined when I started in 2010. I have no regrets and I hope to pass down everything I learned to the next generation.

And now the chapter is closed. On to new challenges. Thank you

If this person was using CBD oil, certain brands have THC. Floyd's of Leadville has THC. If you use something like IKOR (who actually sponsors athletes), it is THC free. I do not know about other brands, only these two, because of their wide availability in my area as the major players sold. Never did THC / pot but seems those I've seen who have, makes them sorta a little chill (you don't want too chill during a race).

"What's New in the 303":

Rich's report on Major League Triathlon AvonFest and Buff Classic Ride:

Major League Triathlon in Avon September 6-8.

  • Major League Triathlon is the first and only professional triathlon league in the United States. The best male and female athletes in the world compete against each other in a unique swim-bike-run team event. Held in major cities across the US, MLT pros compete in pop-up “stadiums”, allowing for a viewer experience unlike anything before seen in sport. Major League Triathlon is more than just a race; it’s a show.

MLT teams feature 2 Pro men and 2 Pro women racing the Super Sprint Mixed Team Relay Format at every event stop. Each athlete will complete a 300 meter swim, 4 mile looped bike course, and 1 mile run before tagging off to their teammate. First team to have all four athletes across the line wins.

Buff Bicycle Classic in Boulder, CO September 8

  • The Buffalo Bicycle Classic dates back to 2003, having raised over 3.9 million dollars in support of student scholarships at CU Boulder. The students served by the BBC are some of Colorado’s brightest; each entering CU with over a 4.0 high school GPA. Our student scholars also demonstrate strong financial need, which makes this scholarship particularly important. Our $10,000 scholarship to these promising students makes higher education attainable. Through the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers and riders, we are able to make a difference in the lives of over 400 students in the last fourteen years.
